On June 26 in DeKalb County, everything changed in an instant for Firefighter Frederick Goins. He was battling a blaze at an abandoned home, standing outside as part of the defensive attack. Without warning, the front of the burning house collapsed. In an instant, Goins was gone — trapped beneath a crushing wave of fiery debris.
What happened next was an act of brotherhood and bravery that won’t be forgotten. Twenty-five of his fellow firefighters dropped everything and tore through burning rubble, wood, and twisted metal. With smoke filling the air and flames still licking at the wreckage, they refused to give up.
And they pulled him out — alive.
Now, Goins lies in the ICU burn unit, clinging to life and beginning what will be a grueling road to recovery. He’s suffered devastating burns, and faces multiple surgeries, skin grafts, and months of painful rehabilitation.
He’s not just a firefighter. He’s a devoted husband. A loving dad to four young children — all under six years old.
He’s the kind of man who shows up, no matter the risk. For his crew. For strangers. For his family.
Now, it’s our turn to show up for him.
Firefighter Goins gave everything for his community. Let’s rally around him and give back some of that strength, hope, and love he’s always so freely offered to others.
Keep fighting, Frederick. We’re all behind you.
